Real World Git Essentials

Learn Git the Way Data Engineers Actually Use It

Course Summary

Stop learning Git as a list of commands. Start using it the way Data Engineers use it in the real world.

Real World Git Essentials is a practical, hands-on course designed for aspiring and working Data Engineers who have little or no real-world experience with Git.

You don't need to become a Git expert.

You need to understand Git well enough to join a Data Engineering team, work confidently with an existing codebase, make your changes safely, collaborate with other developers, and understand how code eventually reaches production.

That's exactly what this course is designed to help you experience.

Starting from the absolute basics, you'll understand what Git actually is, how it differs from platforms such as GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, and how local and remote repositories work.

Then you'll move beyond theory and experience a real-world development workflow.

You'll clone repositories, work with master, develop and feature branches, use commands such as git status, git add, git commit, git push and git pull, understand .gitignore, and learn how developers safely move their changes from their local machine to a remote repository.

But that's only the beginning.

You'll also see what happens after you push your code.

You'll experience Pull Requests, code reviews, review comments, approvals and merges. You'll understand how Git fits into Dev, Test and Production environments and how a typical enterprise deployment workflow moves code from a feature branch to develop and eventually to master for production.

You'll even experience situations that developers regularly face at work — such as joining an existing project, modifying someone else's code, accidentally making changes on the wrong branch, recovering from Git mistakes, and dealing with merge conflicts.

By the end of the course, concepts like clone, branch, checkout, stage, commit, push, pull, PR, merge, merge conflict, local repository and remote repository will no longer be terminology you've simply memorized.

They'll be things you've actually used.

What You'll Learn

→ Git fundamentals without unnecessary theory
→ Git vs GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket
→ Local vs remote repositories
→ Installing and setting up Git
→ Cloning existing repositories
→ master, develop and feature branch workflows
→ git status, git add, git commit, git push and git pull
→ Using .gitignore correctly
→ Working with an IDE as part of your Git workflow
→ Staging, committing and pushing Data Engineering code
→ Pull Requests and code reviews
→ Handling review comments and approvals
→ Merging feature branches into develop
→ Understanding Dev, Test and Production workflows
→ Moving approved code from develop to master
→ Understanding Git's role in CI/CD and production deployments
→ Working with an existing project and someone else's code
→ Recovering when you make changes on the wrong branch
→ Understanding and resolving merge conflicts
→ Building enough practical Git experience to discuss it confidently in Data Engineering interviews

No Git experience? That's completely fine.

The course is intentionally designed to take you from “I've never really used Git” to “I understand how Git is used in a real Data Engineering project.”

Because as a Data Engineer, you don't need to memorize every Git command.

You need to know how to work with code safely, collaborate with a team, and move your changes through a real-world development lifecycle.
